Tajik human rights activists informed the UN Special Rapporteur

The public organization “Independent Center for the Protection of Human Rights” sent information on evictions and violations of the housing rights of citizens in Tajikistan to the UN Special Rapporteur on adequate housing Balakrishnan Rajagopal and the head of the special procedures department of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights Palais Wilson.

On February 17, 2021, human rights activists of the Public Organization “Independent Center for the Protection of Human Rights” sent information on evictions and violations of housing rights of citizens in Tajikistan to the UN Special Rapporteur on adequate housing Balakrishnan Rajagopal and the head of the special procedures department of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights Palais Wilson).

The information letter provides data on violations of the right to adequate housing in Tajikistan that have taken place.

The information provided, in particular, contains the identified violations related to the procedure for determining the seizure of land for state and public needs, the establishment of the amount of compensation, the procedure for discussing and notifying eviction, as well as the lack of effective measures to protect vulnerable persons and persons whose rights have been violated during evictions.

Along with this, stories of housing rights violations before and during the COVID-19 pandemic and violations related to evictions and demolitions are given.
